Cocoa Butter and Stretch Marks

There is a misconception regarding cocoa butter and stretch marks as there are several stretch marks cream available in the market which has cocoa butter as the natural ingredients. It was believed that cocoa butter makes the skin elastic and flexible resulting in loss of scars.



But it is not so and cocoa butter has no role in building collagen and elastic fibers which appears in the form of stretch marks. Instead of using cocoa butter for curing stretch marks skin rejuvenation treatments is quite effective such as chemical peels and laser treatment. For several years there has been extensive use of cocoa butter for getting rid of stretch marks. It was a cheap option available in the market. This was the major reason why it was used as natural ingredient in almost every stretch marks creams and ointments.


There is no scientific evidence to prove that cocoa butter repairs the damaged tissue which leads to stretch marks. In fact omega 3 and omega 6 acids are essential for reducing stretch marks in the body. These are unsaturated fatty acids which are not produced in the body and needs to be taken as supplements. It is important to grow new collagen tissues in the body for the proper treatment of stretch marks.


Taking proper precautions during pregnancy such as taking sufficient water keeps your body moist and hydrated which reduces the risk of having stretch marks. While applying good moisturizing cream is also effective and it is not essential that it should contain cocoa butter as ingredients as using cocoa butter for stretch marks has no significance. Moreover you can look for medical help and take proper advice from your doctor in order to have proper treatment for stretch marks.
